Our Voices – Our Choice – Our Lives – Our Vote
8th Annual Disability Capitol Action Day to Draw Thousands
Disability Activists, Legislators and over 2,000 participants to rally at the Capitol
SACRAMENTO – Disability activists, community leaders, legislators and thousands of people from the disability and mental health communities will converge on the West Steps of the State Capitol on Wednesday to demand a fair and balanced budget and reject the “all-cuts” budget plan proposed by a handful of state legislators.
Bringing together a diverse network of disability advocates and their allies from across the state, the event aims to mobilize and activate people with disabilities to be a part of policy decisions that impact their ability to work, go to school, live independently and participate in their communities. The event will bring more than 2,000 people with disabilities to demand that “Our Voices – Our Choice – Our Lives – Our Vote” be heard!
After the march to the capitol and rally, participants will meet with their local legislators to inform them how the state budget and policy decisions under consideration by the legislature will impact their lives. With budget negotiations entering the crucial period before the close of the fiscal year, advocates will urge California leaders to maintain existing tax revenues needed to fund critical services and supports that make it possible for people with disabilities to live independently.
The event will also include a Resource Fair with informational booths from over 26 disability service and advocacy organizations.
